Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014) Review
Barry is a talented mechanic and family man whose life is torn apart on the eve of a zombie apocalypse. His sister, Brooke, is kidnapped by a sinister team of gas-mask wearing soldiers & experimented on by a psychotic doctor. While Brooke plans her escape Barry goes out on the road to find her & teams up with Benny, a fellow survivor - together they must arm themselves and prepare to battle their way through hordes of flesh-eating monsters in a harsh Australian bushland.
Some of you already know that I'm Australian and this is an Aussie movie. But I've never seen an Aussie movie that I have enjoyed. That's right, I think Wolf Creek sucked. I f###ing loved this movie! I remember when they were asking for zombie extras for this movie, 10 of my Facebook friends tagged me in the post. They know I love me some zombie. Unfortunately it was filmed in a different state and I was too poor. :(
I think I may have enjoyed this movie a little more because of the environment. I grew up in the country so seeing zombies there and Aboriginal zombies felt more realistic to me. Also this movie is a horror comedy and it captures the Aussie carefree attitude perfectly!
I love the special effects makeup, the zombies look awesome and there is plenty of gore! The cinematography is also really well done for a B grade movie. Unlike most of the characters in zombie movies these characters aren't completely useless. They kick zombie ass, which is great.
The story is also a bit unique because the infection is spread through this smelly gas which the zombies emit and certain people don't get infected, unless they are actually bitten. The zombies turn in 10 seconds are aren't the typical shuffling moaning zombie. These guys are screeching psychopath zombie! Zombies don't scare me, but I can see some people getting freaked out watching this.
There is also a military presence and scientists doing experiments on both zombies and people, while riding around in portable truck laboratories. The experiments have some great side effects on one woman and she develops kickass powers. (I won't spoil it)
I loved every minute of this movie, the zombies are freaky, the story is unique, it's absolutely hilarious and there's lots of gore. I couldn't give it 10/10 because he acting is average and they don't tell us much about the origin of the virus. I'm hoping they make a second movie to explain things.
