Bastard (2015) Review
Five strangers meet due to unexpected circumstances and find themselves in a bloody battle for survival with a brutal masked serial killer, in an isolated mountain town. A young married couple, who also happen to be serial killers on a road trip to play a gig, pick up two hitch-hikers, a couple of teenage runaways, fleeing from an abusive home. The couples stop in a small town, to spend the night in the local bed and breakfast. After deciding to go on a nature hike with the owner of the bed and breakfast, they are joined by a gay, alcoholic and suicidal cop, looking to get his life in order. Soon enough, people start dying in very bloody and gruesome ways and they find themselves being stalked by a masked psychopath.
The killer wears a dark hood and a plastic babyface mask, which is not original at all, but the gore effects in this low budget movie a great. The acting is good and the writers include a back story for each of the characters, so the viewer has the chance to get to know them a little before they die horribly. The characters are all unique and I absolutely loved the serial killer couple, they were a hilarious twist and enjoyable to watch.
There is a lot of humour in this movie, it doesn't try to be serious, so it's fun to watch. Of course there are serious moments and a big twist. It is a little predictable in parts, but it throws more than one twist towards the end, one of which I did not see coming. It does get a little slow when the characters are talking and getting to know each other, but the pacing changes throughout the movie, so if you find yourself getting bored, stick with it!
Some parts are very brutal, so if you have a weak stomach or get grossed out easily, you won't enjoy this movie. It reminded me a bit of Hills Have Eyes, but not in the obvious ways, so don't think I've ruined the movie by saying that because there are a lot of differences between the two movies!
💀 💀 💀 💀 💀 💀 /10
It's a fun little B grade, bloody slasher movie, with some pretty fuc##d up moments. Watch it!
